This goes back to the origins of Top Banana - when creative director, Simon Hobbs played senior cricket for his local side, Hampstead in the Middlesex County League from the age of 15.
Young and full of energy, he opened the bowling attack and was always encouraged to bowl as fast and as hostile as he could against the adult batsman standing before him. Liking nothing more than to put these full-grown men in their place as they did their best to knock him out of the ground.
The greatest encouragement coming from the Australian wicket keeper at the time. Everytime Simon beat the outside edge of the bat or more importantly snicked an edge and got the batsman out, the keeper shouted "Top Banana Hobbsy!"
Ever since, that phrase has always been a term for doing great things, doing your best.
